Calf Milk Replacers

For over 25 years, Britmilk has specialised in calf, lamb and kid milk replacers. With our extensive range of Milk Replacers including Skim based and Whey based products we have a product suitable for all systems and budgets.

Britmilk milk replacers are the result of many years expertise and experience coupled with the constant aim of producing the finest milk products to feed to young calves and lambs.

Rearing calves successfully is probably the most difficult enterprise on any dairy farm or specialist calf rearing unit.

Britmilk Calf milk replacers are formulated to produce low osmolarity powders. Quality oils/fats are fully homogenised, this is when liquid fats/oils are mixed with low heat skim or whey to create fat molecules of less than 2 microns in diameter which are then encapsulated in milk solids and spray dried at low temperature. This process results in less free fat in calf milk and leads to greater digestibility.

All Britmilk calf milk powders contain the health package Bio-Start which contains probiotics to seed the gut with beneficial bacteria.Pprebiotics in the form of live yeast and yeast derived mannan sugars mop up pathogenic bacteria and viruses and absorb mycotoxins. Specific proteins are present which help to prevent bad bacteria and viruses from attaching to the gut lining and thus reducing damage and leading to improved feed efficiency.

Bio-Fat E: Esterified short chain fatty acids replicating the fatty acid profile of cows milk. SCFA have anti-bacterial properties and also help to enhance the development of gut villi for better nutrient absorption with improved feed efficiency

Many of our calf milk powders contain Biocox as standard and with some it is a option. Biocox is a blend of essential oils and plant extracts with its primary role to control the growth of undesirable organism and also enhance the immune system.

Additionally many of our milks contain Nature-Boost as standard. Nature-Boost is a complex combination of natural products to stimulate the immune system to help fight disease. It helps to open the airways for removal of harmful bacteria from the lungs. It also increases the inhibition of harmful bacteria within the gut and airways.

Remember successful calf rearing is based on:

Proper feeding of the dry cow which may involve vaccination for Rotavirus, Corona virus. B.V.D, Salmonella and E-coli strains plus feeding a quality Dry Cow mineral such as the BRITMIN DRY COW with SELPLEX.

Taking early swabs of scouring calves will help to identify the problem organisms. Blood tests can also identify if calves have had sufficient colostrum. This should be discussed with your vet for the appropriate actions.

Clean calving boxes plus the use of COSISAN POWDERED DISINFECTANT will help to prevent infection both via navels and orally through contamination of the teats.

Keeping calves’ dry and well bedded and draft free at all times.

Control of lice from an early age (10 days onwards). Ringworm is often a sign that lice are present.

Ensure adequate colostrum in the first HOUR (up-to 4 LITRES good quality tested colostrum) If good colostrum is not available the use of BRITMILK CALF COLOSTRUM is recommended. To improve colostrum management please refer to our section on coloQuick colostrum system.

Coccidiosis in calves is a growing problem (brown/reddish scour /loose dung). Dung sample will confirm presence of the coccidiosis and appropriate treatment followed.

Clean water/ straw/quality mixture/ pellets should be available at all times from 4 day old.

Only start to wean when calves are eating a minimum 2 kg per head/day for seven consecutive days, remember weaning is a process not an event.
