Computerised Calf Feeding The H & L 100 calf feeding machine offers what modern calf breeders require
Milk Preparation. Milk is prepared fresh and individually for each calf. There is no liquid milk stored in the machine, and the calf does not need to drink stale milk leftover from its companions. Temperature. The temperature of the milk is adjusted to ensure that the milk at the teat is a consistent temperature regardless of the temperature in the building. Frost Protection. Frost protection is fitted as standard as a self activating safety measure. In addition the machine is water proof as an aid to location and cleaning. Cleaning and hygiene. The machine is rinsed with hot water after each calf has fed this cleans the tube right up to the teat guaranteeing that no calf need drink stale milk. Optimum cleaning is achieved at over 55oC the H & L 100 cleans at 60oC once or twice per 24 hours as programmed. Positive milk transport. Milk is automatically transported to the teat ensuring that the calf has milk at the first suck and does not suck air, which is much healthier and speeds up the learning phase. Flys. Fly protection is standard. Temperature adjustment. The milk temperature is adjusted according to age and can be lowered automatically. When two mixers are used and two stands then different temperatures can be fed simultaneously. Powder capacity. Milk powder is stored in a large capacity hopper holding up to 50 kg of powder, with an inlet of only112 high, making it easy to empty a bag into the machine.
From this starting point the machine can be customized to suit all requirements; An additional mixer allows two calves to feed simultaneously when extra stations are added. This also allows the feeding of two different mixtures prepared individually for each calf. Up to three extra feed stations can be added to the machine increasing the total capacity to 120 calves when combined with three phase electric. For more than 30 calves it is recommended that a second stand is installed, with each additional stand the machine will feed 25-30 extra calves. Location of the feed stations relative to the base unit is flexible due to the option of an 8or 12 metre cable connecting both together. For compact locations the 3 metre cabling is standard The option of three phase electric allows the full potential of the H & L 100 to be realised when multiple stations and large numbers of calves are present. Holm & Laue were the first calf machine manufacturer to offer automatic weighing of calves which combined with the computer technology allows monitoring of calf growth rates and the ability to automatically adjust milk provision. This is a useful addition to the machine when calves are soured from multiple breeders and growth rates need to be monitored. Concentrate provision can be integrated and controlled by the H & L 100, up to two concentrate feeders can be connected to the machine to regulate and control the intake of concentrates and link this to the supply of milk. Calf identification is via collars around the calf's neck. Made from durable nylon webbing these carry the transponder/weight in the correct position for trouble free operation.
